Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich

Another favorite local market I've mentioned before is Jimmy's Food Store.

Jimmy’s is an Old East Dallas institution that has been in Dallas for over 50 years. Started by Mike and Paul DiCarlo’s father and grandfather back in the 40’s in south Dallas, the store was moved to the Bryan street location in 1966 and has been a fixture ever since. You can always find the DiCarlos working in the store and greeting their faithful customers with a big smile. Jimmy’s is known for their homemade sausage, meatballs, caviar, Italian wines and the best Cuban sandwiches in town. Some of Dallas’ best restaurants buy their sausage from Jimmy’s.

Last Saturday David whipped up some easy, but tasty steak sandwiches. We got all of the ingredients at Jimmy's.  Everyone thought they were delicious and we look forward to him making these again.

We bought 6 thin slices of Bracciole beef for under $3...gotta love that! Here's the recipe:

6 thin slices of Bracciole beef (1 slice per sandwich)
3 Connella's French Rolls (made in Chicago and it's flown in daily)
1/2 pint Mozzarella and Provelle shredded cheese mix
1 sliced red bell pepper
1 sliced yellow onion
1 jalapeno, seeded and diced
1 tbsp olive oil
Salt and pepper
1 - 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves
Hellman's Mayo
Grey Poupon Dijon mustard
Horseradish

Sprinkle the beef with Worcestershire, salt and pepper. In a skillet heat oil and saute' all the vegetables until limp. In a 350 degree oven lightly toast the rolls. In another pan brown the meat over medium-high heat until brown and the redness is gone; about 1 to 1 - 1/2 minutes per side. Prepare the rolls with a slathering or your favorite condiments. Layer the hot meat, cheese, the warm veggies and top with cilantro leaves.
